Brought thoroughly up-to-date-with the latest information on everything from diapering to daycare, from midwifery to hospital "birthing rooms," from postpartum nutrition to infant development-THE BABY BOOK remains the one must-have resource for today's new parents.
In this perennially bestselling and encyclopedic guide, Dr. Bill and Martha Sears draw from their vast experience both as medical professionals and as parents to provide authoritative, comprehensive information on virtually every aspect of infant care. THE BABY BOOK focuses on the essential needs of babies-eating, sleeping, development, health, and comfort-as it addresses the questions of greatest concern to parents today.
In their excellent (and hefty) resource guide, The Baby Book, attachment parenting specialists William Sears and Martha Sears have provided new parents with their approach to every aspect of baby care basics, from newborns to toddlers. Attachment parenting is a gentle, reasonable approach to parenting that stresses bonding with your baby, responding to her cues, breastfeeding, "wearing" your baby, and sharing sleep with your child. For those parents who worry about negative effects of this attention, the Sears say, "Spoiling is what happens when you leave something (or some person) alone on the shelf--it spoils."

Yet somehow you can buy it for such a great price! This book is fantastic. My wife and I constantly use it as a reference and love to read it when we get a free moment (which of course is rare). Out of the 15+ books that we bought before our son was born, this is #1 on our list. Amazing how much detail and depth this book has. Written by professionals who are parents, or vice-versa. A must for any parent!
I got burned out reading this book because there is so much stuff in it. However, I think it's a great book to have on hand as a resource to read the sections your child is in at that time. Not a book that is good to sit down and try to finish.
I didn't know what I was buying: I was looking for non-attachment parenting book and here we are.
So only for parents who are in that line of thinking!
This book has been helpful, but I wish I would have gotton one more like the pregnancy books that I got were you read from week to week. I find it a little overwhelming with all the information. It is a good reference when you have a specific question.
I purchased this book before my son was born simply because of good reviews on amazon.com. Without a doubt I made a right decision. I really like Dr. Sears' positive approaches toward all the common concerns and problems all new moms would experience. Every time I feel "maybe I am doing wrong "or I'm confused about what I am supposed to do under certain situation, I just opened the book and find the solutions. Usually I am not doing anything wrong. As long as I follow my heart Dr.Sears support me with good evidence in the book. My mother-in-low always tells me what I should do and how my baby who is now 6 month old is manipulating me. She promotes "Cry it Out" method since that's what she used for her kids. I tried the method a couple of times. The outcome was really bad. Both me and baby were so tired, felt extremely bad and were very unhappy all day. Now I have every confident that Dr Sears' AP method is right for my family. Thanks to this book my son is physically and mentally healthy and a very happy baby. He laughs more than cries every day. I definitely recommend this book. Starting to read it before you give birth is best!
