This book is perfect! I had a dog cookbook years ago, but the recipes were so complicated, with so many added supplements, that I stopped using it. In this book, the recipes are all simple and use common ingredients that most people have in the house anyway. It does suggest adding calcium, but does not try to make every recipe completely balanced. Instead, it suggests feeding a variety of foods to provide all the nutrients that dogs need. It is spiral bound so it lies flat, and the presentation is very attractive and stylish. It has lots of pictures of cute dogs, and cartoon dogs, so it's fun. I showed it to a friend who has a fussy Chihuahua and she is going to order one too.
The book is attractive, well-designed, and simple enough that anyone will stick with it. I plan to cook up my first doggie meal today. Thanks. I am very happy with this book!
I just bought this book yesterday and have made three meals from it, so far, for my 4-month-old English Bulldog. This morning, I made one of the egg recipes with sweet potato and she was literally jumping for joy as I was preparing the meal. She loved it so much, she kept going back to the empty bowl and licking the sides. The cookbook does call for a lot of expensive meats like lamb, duck, and salmon so I may just stick only to the chicken and turkey meals. However, I feel that it's all worth it if you don't want to spend thousands at the vet later on. I never thought I'd be this kind of dog owner, but it does feel good to know you're trying your best at keeping 'em healthy and happy.
I WISH IN THE DESCRIPTION THEY WOULD HAVE TOLD US 98% OF THE RECIPES CALLS FOR 1 1/2 CUPS OF WHEAT!
IN THIS DAY AND AGE WE ALL KNOW THAT WHEAT ALONG WITH OTHER GRAINS IS AN "HIGH" ALLERGEN FOR YOUR DOGS!
THERES SO MANY OTHER THINGS THAT CAN BE USED INSTEAD OF WHEAT.
THE ULTIMATE REASON I DECIDED TO HOMECOOK FOR MY PRECIOUS BEAGLE IS BECAUSE OF ALL THE ALLERGENS ....BESIDES ALL THE OTHER GARBAGE IN PET FOOD...........THATS IN THE COMMERCIAL DOG FOODS! I DIDNT NEED A BOOK ON HOW TO HOME COOK THAT WAS GOING TO HAVE THE "BIGGEST" ALLERGEN "WHEAT" IN ALL THE RECIPES!
THE BOOK ALSO TELLS YOU WHAT YOUR DOG SHOULD BE HAVING BUT DOESNT EXPLAIN HOW TO GET WHERE TO GET ITS ALL VERY VAGUE! I DIDNT EVEN WANT TO GIVE IT ONE STAR!
Excellent book. Has numerous recipes I know my dog will love. Simple ingredients and easy fixings.
We purchased this book for our son who has 2 new doggies! He is a great cook himself and will certainly enjoy using the variety of recipes to prepare special treats for the 'boys.'
