    Very Informational (5.0)

I have become a fan of this publisher. This is the third book I've read of theirs and not the last. While I have no plans to file for bankruptcy I have had people I've known file for it and the process of it has crossed my mind.

This book walks you through the process of what goes on when you file Chapter 13. Chapter 13 is very different than Chapter 7. That's another book. :) It gives you guidance as to whether or not you need a lawyer, specific information for your state, joint bankruptcy, etc...

Bankruptcy laws have changed over the years and filing for it isn't as easy as it used to be. There are different parameters for 13 vs. 7 and this book will help guide you as to whether this is the way to go or not.

Get this before the big crisis. Read this even if you have a lawyer. (5.0)

When I was offered an opportunity to review the new addition of this book, I requested a copy even though we are not facing bankruptcy ourselves. However, a close friend may be, and is emotionally distressed. I thought it would be helpful for us to read it together. We are also reading related books by Nolo.

This book helps answer the question: "What is the worst that can happen financially?". When one is freaked out with worry, it is calming to get concrete answers rather than one's imaginings. The writing style is straight-forward, easy to understand.

This book would also be helpful for those who are not necessarily facing bankruptcy, but facing a cash flow problem, and who need cash and are faced with these unpleasant choices as temporary fixes: withdraw or "borrow" funds from a retirement plan, versus get a second mortgage on your home (in addition to an existing mortgage), vs. borrow money against a car or other asset as collateral, vs. more credit card debt, etc. The choices can have very different impacts during a bankruptcy.

Tons of Info, But Still Not a Substitute for an Attorney (4.0)

There is an abundance of information about Chapter 13 Bankruptcy in this book. What I can say is that you can get familiar with the legal jargon and procedures that will inevitable happen should you chose or need to file. What I found most useful is that it puts your mind at ease in terms of protecting your hard earned property and some assets. In other words, don't let creditors or there representatives scare you to death without learning all the facts yourself. Bottom line you can learn a lot from this book and use to know what your attorney will be doing and talking about so your not going in there blindly. It's for those control freaks like myself that like to know as much as possible even when referring to an expert. If you do not care to know about terms and solutions but rather get them from your legal counsel, then I would say save your money and just head to the best bankruptcy attorney in your area that you can afford.

Another great title by Nolo (5.0)

I enjoy getting the latest titles from nolo.

As someone who has never filed Bankruptcy, nor have any intentions to, I got this book more as a preventative measure, to see what it was about, and to find ways to avoid having to file for bankruptcy (in case it ever happened).

The benefit of this book is it empowers you with the knowledge to know what to do and make informed decisions.

Throughout the book they discuss various ways you can protect your assets when filing for bankruptcy.

From talking to people who have filed bankruptcy it seems the roughest part is paying for the lawyer, who's fee's can be quite high (not to mention the aggravation from not really knowing what's going on).

By checking out this book you'll have an idea of what's going on, what will happen, and the best way to make it happen. All without having to spend a dime on a lawyer.

As with all Nolo books, I highly recommend this book. If you're considering bankruptcy pick it up. If you just want to learn more about what happens during the process, and things to look out for, definitely check this one out.

Great Book to walk you thought BK Process for Chapter 13 (5.0)

Having to file Chapter 7 unfortunately, I got this book to see about possibly having to file a Ch 13 if my case is converted. It has great information just like the Nolo Chapter 7 book and walks you through the step by step process. If you do decide to file on your own, please seek help forums for Bankruptcy that can help you with filing pro-se and any questions the book doesn't answer. A free LIFESAVER of a site is [...] ... It will help you on your journey if you are trying to save money by filing without a attorney. Otherwise like all Nolo books, this one is awesome!
