pros: simple, quick, no fancy equipment, no fancy ingredients (just one or two)
cons: i craved a brownie, made the brownie recipe.... it did not satisfy...it still tasted like chewy chocolate walnut flour. avocado frosting still tastes like mashed chocolate avocado. there are some really great recipes that I have found since I first started being raw, the ones in this book are mediocre in comparison.
this was one of my first raw food recipebooks, at first I wasn't too impressed with the amateurish layout. But after a year and several raw books later, I found myself going back to these recipes whenever I wanted something raw and wanted food fast. The dessert recipes aren't that bad, they're just not GREAT. but if taste is really important to you, keep searching and you will find.
I'm still exploring the recipes in this book, but so far they've been easy and tasty. I'm thrilled to have info on basic raw food prep including what tools and ingredients are needed. I am now learning to soak oats and nuts and gathering my tools such as a food processor, julienne peeler, collander, knives, etc. Lots of fun and I'm already noticing the energy from eating lots of raw!
My favorites are the creamy avacodo soup, not tuna pate, stuffed bell peppers and the raw marinara is awsome! Some recipes are simple enought to prepare at my desk at work. The spiralized squash with raw marinara was a big hit!
Thank you Jennifer!

After having made many of the recipes in this book, all of my experiences have been positive! The ones I have tried have all been phenomenal (the Pesto is a staple in my fridge)! The Marinara sauce is sooooo good, I can't even verbalize how good it was! I made the Marinara Sauce with the 'Not Meatball' meatballs and zucchini noodles and had one of the best dining experiences of my life - my tastebuds were singing! The taste of the Marinara sauce was so robust and flavorful! The meatballs have a wonderful consistency and are delicious as well. The presentation along with my zucchini noodles (used the World Cuisine Vegetable Slicer - $30 on Amazon.com - love this vegetable slicer as well!) was absolutely beautiful. I am personally convinced that we cook the flavor out of food and then try to put it back with salt, fatty sauces and other unnecessary means. The true and natural flavor of the raw foods and various spices is delectable; there is no other way to put it! Jennifer Cornbleet, thank you for producing such a thorough and quality product! Your recipes have opened up an entire new world for me! I'm not a huge cook so your straightfoward recipes with minimal ingredients makes me excited to try new meals.
This was my first raw foods cookbook. I was drawn to the title because I'm the only person in my house interested in eating a raw foods diet. However, even my husband has sampled some of the foods I've made from this book. I love the simple, no-nonsense directions, easy ingredient lists and tasty creations that I've sampled so far. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to eat healthier and add more fruits and veggies into their diet. It's wonderful!
