Theyve updated dozens of recipes for delicious and healthful pet food and treats. With a guide to handling emergencies and an in-depth Quick Reference section, they give specific instructions for preventing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of animal diseases and disorderswith special attention to homeopathic, herbal, and nutritional remedies.
This book is invaluable to me. It's a must for any pet owner dog or cat. It is mostly based on homeopathy based treatments by Dr Pitcairn the worlds leading veterinarian. It has helped me with my own dogs numerous times in emergency situations as well as with chronic conditions.
I have had clients phone me asking advice from me as I have learned so much from reading this book and using it as a quick reference. This can make the difference you need in a moment that your pet is injured and going to the vet. It also contains use full information on BARF diets for cats and dogs.
Checked this one out of the library so many times, I finally bought my own copy. It is used daily.
I like this book. So much so that I lend it out to friends in need. I even have two copies.
But the recipes with grains, and the lack of understand of the benefits of a raw diet are disappointing. The author has a lot more work to do in this regard. And I hope to see a much more accurate depiction of the raw diet and its benefits in a future edition.
I have fed my dogs raw, and many of my friends and neighbors have benefited from feeding their once ill pets raw.
I even tried vegetarian for my dogs with disastrous results. I used to be vegan, so I thought it was a good, green idea. But alas, the physiology of canis deserves to feed raw. Raw meat that is.
I bought this book because I had found the previous guide very helpful with all my dogs. I was disappointed. It had the same things as before as well as added. What was added came across as vague... not that the author did not know (usually) but that there was not enough room. Cushings was a good example. One of my mom's dogs has Cushings disease. He covers that but only in a very short space. And he told her even less that she all ready knew.
My biggest disappointment was reading that people were told that a lot of pit bulls and shar peis did not make good pets. When I read that I gave the book away. How many people now have the opinion that both those breeds are bad pets? I have been blessed with both breeds and they are not only wonderful friends but great family members too. They do well with children and the whole nine. I have done my best to try to get people to give these breeds a chance and I find a popular author telling everyone to watch out for them. I will never buy anything with this name on it again.
That said others may find information in the book helpful. But most of what is in there is the same. Just a new cover.
This is a good book to have in one's library although it seemed like the areas of interest I had specifically when I purchased this book were not included. It still is a good reference book.
