somewhat outdated (3.0)

Joyce's book is still mostly relevant. The scams that are described still occur. Like the credit card frauds. These are especially lucrative because of the remote, anonymous nature of the Internet. So that someone who obtains your credit card number can place an order with a merchant, without being physically present.

Social engineering is still a danger. As this bypasses many technical methods of protection. Joyce offers advice about how to stay on guard when surfing the web.

However, one key scam that did not exist when the book was written is phishing. It relies mostly on social engineering, since a phishing email is usually a "correct" email, as far as email handling protocols are concerned.
