I'm no coffee snob mind you but having been to Hawaii twice recently, I remember fondly the days of waking up with a cup of Kona coffee and enjoying the scenery. Perhaps the flavor of the coffee was enhanced by the beauty of my natural surroundings but the fact is this coffee is absolutely horrible. Like many of the Hawaiian coffees, Kona is an "earthy" blend and you can taste the dirt true Kona was grown in and I mean that in a good way! Kona coffee is earthy without being muddy as it's rather light in character for such a dark coffee and a decent Kona will allow you to taste the earth as well as the other flavors in the coffee.
So when I saw this on Amazon and saw it was a blend, I was skeptical but given the reviews it got, I figured what the heck and I'd give it a try. What a mistake. Perhaps (and no disrespect to those who may like this coffee) it is a muddled mess of nothingness. Too muddy to be "earthy" and not nearly enough Kona in it to make it taste even remotely like a true Kona coffee. Plainly put this coffee is just plain bad. It can't figure out if it wants to be one of those dark and dangerous blends (like Wake Up Call) which when you drink it, you know exactly what you're getting into (that is a solid kick in the pants that you could stand a spoon up in.) This I expected to be light and clean with a little bit of dirt but it's nothing like that.
Forget the fact that it's supposed to be Kona, it just isn't good, no matter what kind of "blend" it's supposed to be.
Ugh. Run away, far, far away.
If you like medium (not extra bold) coffee this coffee is for you. It is wonderful every time. I love it. I am not able to drink any of the extra bold types anymore due to stomach issues. This is great!
As K-cups go, this is our favorite. Certainly worth a try. It has a rich, bold flavor. We have had good luck with not having what we call "k-cup failure" with this brand (i.e. no coffee grounds in our mugs). Overall, we keep coming back for more of this and the price is right on Amazon Subscribe and Save.
Very bitter. After taste lingers like a cheap cup of coffee you would drink because there was nothing else avalible! Don't waste your money!
This Kpona blend is pretty good. I think I could've found a better price, in retrospect, but the product itself is a good cup of coffee.
