3 Hit Wonder! (5.0)
We stay at a campground that does three Halloween weekends each October ([...] for anybody interested) and the kids trick or treat every weekend. I bought these figuring it was easy to give out one piece of candy to each kid versus a handfull. My husband thought they would be a bust and that the kids wouldn't like them. HE WAS WRONG! We had kids talking about our trailer every weekend. We have out candy to over 350 kids for about $45! I hope this product is back again next year. The kids loved it. Couple of people asked where we got them for birthday parties :)
A Halloween Tradition (5.0)
I have checked this book out of the library for the last ten years around Halloween. I finally decided it was time to buy it and was disappointed Amazon does not have a hardback copy available for sale. Nevertheless, Harriet is every kid on Halloween with his or her "loot". What kid doesn't pour it out on the floor, sort it, resort it, hide it, count it, etc.? When I ask my kids to share, they do just as Harriet. A great story that truly captures behavior that will leave even us grown-ups feeling a bit guilty.
We love this book! (5.0)
We reread this book every Halloween! It gives us an opportunity to discuss selfishness and the consequences of negative behavior- like the way Harriet "cheats" her baby brother out of the "good candy" and the way hiding her candy becomes obsessive- not to mention Harriet's nausea after gobbling down all her candy. We really like the way Harriet counts and classifies her Halloween goodies- a fun application of Math. Our daughters have complete control over their Halloween Booty for about a week- and then it gets poured into the Family Candy Bowl- by then they have gotten their fill of their Favorites, and don't overdo it. Many years, as Girl Scouts, they have thrown the "leftover candy" to the crowds that gather in our city for the Veteran's Day Parade. Harriet is a Cautionary Tale- well worth the conversations it can inspire!
Highly Disappointed in this Book (1.0)
I bought this book on the recommendation of some of my girlfriends. I thought it would be a good book to discuss handling halloween candy. Instead it shows the main character hoarding her candy, sharing only one piece for which she doesn't care, and in the end getting a stomache ache. I would have preferred a book distolling the virtues of sharing, moderation when it comes to candy, and the other joys of Halloween. This book brought none of that.
There's nothing sweet about this!!! (1.0)
We bought this for my son for Halloween. First of all it doesn't look as nice as the picture. The costume was squished and misshaped. The hat is huge and doesn't fit his head properly. Then we tried to return it and got no response. Finally when a response came it basically stated that it was too late to return it. Well...duh....I guess it is too late when you don't get a response. I would never order from this particular place again and I'd advise seeing the costume before buying especially for children to insure that it fits properly. Overall this was a disappointment and a waste of money and time.
