Great Set of Power Tools (5.0)
I come from a Makita family and had always planned on getting a Makita tool set. While I was at Home Depot these power tools were on sale, and my wife surprised me with them. It has been over 2 years and I am so glad she did. I love (LOVE) my Dewalt power tool set. I use the drill most frequently (of course) but I can't even count how many times the grinder has been the perfect tool for whatever job I have been working on. I try and take care of my stuff, but I have dropped my tools several times and they still work great. This has been such a great purchase and I absolutely recommend them to anyone.
Laughed at every task so far (5.0)
I have been using this combo kit for about 6 months now, and I have yet to have an issue that this kit can't tackle. I have been using the saw for different types of plywood and MDF board and it works quickly and easily. The grinder kills the battery pretty quickly so have an extra in the charger if you are cutting a lot. The impact driver seems to be more useful that I imagined. I have driven anchor screws in concert block and it will drive the screw 1/2" to 3/4" with ease. It will also tackle those pesky IKEA you put it together stuff the wife always brings home. The hammer drill is a little on the weak side, it seems to shake more than hammer, but it works great as a standard drill. Great group of tools!
Battery contact broke (2.0)
This saw was part of a combo pack that I purchased. Within a couple of uses the saw would work intermittently. After some trouble shooting I found that one of the battery contacts isn't stiff enough to make contact with the battery. Bending it didn't work because the metal is too weak to stay in place. The service center said that it would take a couple of weeks to get an authorization and then parts. I need this tool everyday. Right now It has a small piece of wood to hold the contact in place. In 4 months, 2 of the 4 batteries I purchased stopped working. I'm not impressed
DeWalt Sawsall (4.0)
This is a top quality saw. I used it for trimming saplings on a trail using a pruning blade. Some trees were up to 3" in diameter. One caution is to have two fully charged batteries. It takes a lot of juice to run the saw and a back up battery is a requirement for a good day in the woods.
Love this saw. (5.0)
First things first: Check with the seller to see if it's the shorter nano base or the longer XPR base. Both types of batteries will work in any 18 volt Dewalt tool, but the shorter nano batteries might look funny if the saw has a longer base, and the old XPR batteries might look funny on the nano base. Features: 1) 4 blade positions (up, down, left, right) 2) Lock button (black button an inch northeast of the trigger, see picture). This enables you to carry/store the saw with the battery in place without the ability to accidentally pull the trigger and saw something you didn't mean to (your leg, etc). 3) Removable shoe. The round yellow button towards the front allows you to remove the "shoe" (Black metal piece at end of saw). 4) The tool's not that heavy, I cut a high branch off a tree holding the saw with my arm almost vertical without any problem. Corded vs cordless: I've had a corded sawzall for about ten years. Worked great when I finished my sister's unfinished basement. I used it over and over and over again. If you just want one for demolition work, or any indoor work where there's an outlet, you might want the corded, especially if you'll be using it a lot continuously (won't need to keep recharging batteries). That said, I've had branches in the yard for years that I never got around to dragging out the 50 or 100 foot extension to use with the corded sawzall. With this cordless Dewalt that I got just a few weeks ago, I've been filling four yard waste cans a week with fallen branches and dead limbs cut with this saw. And no longer will I put 5 foot plus branches out hoping that they take them, just cut them with this saw. It's actually fun (for now at least). So for a summary of corded vs cordless: If you have a lot of indoor work, maybe get the corded, you won't have to change batteries (and corded are generally more powerful). If you just use it a few minutes at a time, or have a yard with large branches to cut, cordless is the way to go. For BIG branches, you can get 12 inch blades here: DeWalt DW4804 12-Inch 6 TPI Taper Back Bi-Metal Reciprocating Saw Blade, 5-Pack Update: As long as the branches aren't too thick, the Black & Decker NPP2018 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Chain Saw, 8-Inch Bar is much better at cutting branches. It's faster, quieter, and doesn't vibrate like the sawzalls, and you can reach much higher without a ladder. I doubt you could cut a 7.5 inch diameter branch with it sideways though (I did with the Dewalt "sawzall"). You could try cutting such a branch from a tree straight across, just make sure someone's filming so you can make 600 bucks on one of those video sites when the branch falls the wrong way and destroys your shed/porch/car/etc.
Good tool (5.0)
I have been pleased with this DeWalt tool, just like the other tools I have from them. I would recommend this to tradesman or the handyman.
Versatile (4.0)
I find this tool to be a great help in some every day tasks. I've had it for short time but it's been used to cut limbs from trees that would have required a manual bow saw, roots that an ax couldn't reach on a large stump I'm removing. and miscellaneous rough lumber pieces. Take a look at the Dewalt web site for some insight into how Dewalt builds better tools with metal instead of plastic. I like this tool and the quality.
Great tool! (5.0)
I bought this "Bare-Tool", as I already own another DeWalt tool and have spare batteries and a charger. I have a 18 volt "Black & Decker Firestorm" saw of this type, but it is very under powered, and the battery packs do not last well. This DeWalt will out saw the B & D numerous times over and is an excellent buy.
Handy Tool (4.0)
I usually use a corded saw but sometimes there is no juice available so I need a cordless saw. I have many DeWalt tools so I already have many batteries and only needed the "bare tool" model. I really like the left side blade because I am right handed. However, you get a face full of saw dust and I think DeWalt needs to address this with better exhaust.
Dewalt cordless circular (4.0)
I'm a general contractor and use this saw often. Good weight, handles well, and has a thin kerf. Only complaint is battery life, but I have not upgraded to lithium-ion yet. I would recommend this saw. Great value as well.
Completely satisfied (5.0)
This saw is an exceptional value. I found other places for well over a $100.00. The saw was shipped when they said it would and it arrived on time. I buy from these folks again.
No Blades Either! (4.0)
Love the saw and the concept of bare tool. Big deal was made of the fact that batteries do not come with the saw. Read the reviews and looked at the pictures prior to ordering and was convinced that blades came with the saw. WRONG. Just be forewarned; order blades with the bare tool.
Dewalt DCK450X (4.0)
I was very satisfied with my purchase. Everything was in the exact condition that it was supposed to be in.
Sweet (5.0)
Great combination of tools from a company who knows how to make useful tools. These tools have more power than a homeowner will need and will keep a professional going for years. I own many DeWalt tools and am happy with each one.
Best tools I've ever owned (5.0)
By far the best set of cordless tools out there. This is a fairly expensive set but you are getting high quality tools that will last you a long time. The drill has an enormous amount of power and with the right bit could drill through just about anything. If you're coming from a smaller, lower voltage toolset you will be shocked at the amount or torque, speed, and/or power this drill will put out for you. Take it easy on those screws or you'll strip them real quick. The recip saw is great, allowing you to position the blade at two angles in either direction to get the blade in just the right spot. The quick release on the blade is also outstanding allowing you to adjust that direction and angle in a matter of seconds without ever putting the tool down. The circular saw to me appears to be a little bit on the slow side RPM wise but it's ripped through just about anything I've thrown at it without a problem at all. The light, well it's a light. It is very bright, the flexible neck is kind of cool but there's not many positions you can get it in without the whole thing falling over. The batteries in this, while not lithium like many other sets still perform wonderfully. So don't turn down this set simply because of that, you should also consider that your investment is in the tools and not the batteries and when the time comes for replacement of the batteries you can easily upgrade to lithium while keeping these tools.
Works for me (5.0)
I am a homeowner and this is the perfect drill to have available for both small and large projects. Last summer it helped me build a deck and by the time one of the batteries discharged, the other battery was already recharged and ready to go to work. I received this as a Father's Day gift last year and have been VERY pleased with it and it's performance.
Overpriced parts needed for repair. (2.0)
They are no longer worth the money. Quality has gone down and parts prices have gone up. I have several of these, and every time one fails, it costs an arm and a leg to buy a new part. I have finally given up on DeWalt and just cannibalize another drill to get a part without going broke. DeWalt is useless in helping me with repair advice, and small parts are not available to the consumer. All they say is "Take it to our repair service." Their battery packs are horribly expensive, too.
Dewalt vindicated! (5.0)
I have read the reviews on this drill and, now that I use one myself, I am ready to give my opinion. Many wrote that the chuck wobbled and I hesitated to buy it for this reason. I use this drill constantly in a retail store and have had "zero" problems with the chuck in that area. It runs true to center and stays tight. The chuck works strange in that it tightens well only when the trigger is not engaged at all. The brake holds the chuck at rest and, only then, will allow the bit or driver to grip snugly. Works well! Although Dewalt may have fixed the issue because most of the negative reviews are two to five years old. The batteries hold a charge well also. I have only charged them once in about two months time using the drill for about ten minutes or so at a time. This is a company drill and now I am going to get another one for my home use. Great product and I hope this review helps any of you out there who are undecided to make a wise choice.
DeWalt 18-V Cordless (5.0)
Received the tool ready to go, but I tested it to see if any of the problems noted by others were evident; notably runout in the chuck. None! It's well-centered, powerful, and runs very well. I have old, 12-V cordless DeWalt drills, and in comparison this is much, much nicer. I like being able to tighten the chuck with one hand, as it locks and allows turning without holding "the other part of" the drill. All around good tool; I've used it mostly for screwing in 3/8" lag screws, and it does that well...
Best Drill Ever! (5.0)
This drill kicks A$$! A lot of power and a great price for a dewalt 18 volt. Came with back up battary and charger, so I never lose power.
awesome (5.0)
Finished an 800sq ft addition to our home. One of the best tools I had. It's awesome. Quit looking at reviews and go get one.
All You Could Want In A Driver (5.0)
Effortlessly drives wood screws without stripping the screw heads like a drill will do. Use the right tool for the right job and you won't be sorry. I can sink 2&1/2" screws all day long with a couple of spare batteries and this driver doesn't tire out. Get yourself some elongated bits and this driver will fit into ALMOST everywhere you need to use it. For hanging cabinets though I use the Ridgid right angle driver.
Tools (5.0)
This is the one. Drivers are the way to go. Put your weight on it and drive it home.
Best. Tool. Ever. (5.0)
I actually got this tool when I bought the 6-tool set that comes in a contractor bag. I really bought the set for the reciprocating saw, the circular saw, the grinder, and the "normal" drill. My attitude toward the impact driver was more or less, "eh, that thing looks pretty wimpy". Well, that was two months ago, before I completely re-framed half of a house. This is now the most used tool I own. I can drive 3 1/2" screws into studs and headers all day long, one handed. As long as I'm driving straight, I will never strip out screw heads with it. In fact, the worst problem I have is breaking bits. The DeWalt "Impact Ready" bits are the worst. I will sometimes break a bit after only one screw. That should give you an idea of the torque and power this thing generates! The good news is that I did find that, surprisingly, Kobalt bits seem to hold up very well for some reason. I can sometimes get 50 screws driven with one Kobalt bit! I'm talking 3 1/2" screws into yellow pine, by the way. If you're driving 2" screws you'll go all day with one bit. Get the Kobalts, though - they're $13 for a box of 50 at Lowe's. The DeWalts are something like $7 for 5 bits - which are good for about 10 screws total before they all break. It may seem intimidating that it breaks bits, but don't worry, my 97 pound girlfriend has no trouble at all using this thing. Really it's unbelievable. There is simply no way to put into words how well and easily this thing drives screws. It seems impossible. The days of leaning into the back of a regular drill with all my weight, just to have the screw head strip out millimeters from being set are over! I'm buying one of these for my brother for his birthday - it's the best gift I could possibly give to someone that does any kind of carpentry or drives fasteners. Absolutely worth every penny. PS. I know this review is over the top, and I'm sure there are other drivers that perform just as well, but my experience with this tool has been just great, so I wanted to share it with the world! Thanks for reading!
Contractor's choice (5.0)
As a professional, I require durability from my tools. This impact driver was awesome. I bought it because I already use Dewalt cordless tools and batteries, so for $100 I would have been stupid to not buy this. I just put in thousands of 3.5" #10 exterior wood screws no problem, a hundred or so 5" fastenmaster lag screws and forget about shorter lag screws. This thing literally saved me hours of labor, so it paid for itself. I am not looking forward to hanging some cabinets with it and finally being able to screw inside of a 9" cabinet sideways.
Not a Bike Thief's Best Friend (3.0)
The battery in this lock is terrible. It could only cut through 2 or 3 U-locks a night before it got too sluggish for me to do my job before anyone noticed.
Great cut-off tool (5.0)
This cut-off tool is likely the only one you are going to need. It uses the same batteries as the rest of my tools, accepts standard wheels, and has plenty of torque to get the job done. Sure beats a hacksaw!
Great value! (4.0)
If you already have DeWalt 18v batteries, then adding this tool to your kit is an affordable way to have a great grinder. The retailer shipped the product quickly and in perfect condition.
Dewalt Cut-off Tool (5.0)
This is the handiest tool in my garage. Very pleased with the quality, portability and power of this little guy. Shoulda had one sooner.
great buy on a great tool (5.0)
dewalt is a quality product, and I was pleased to find it so reasonably priced. I have been using dewalt tools for years, this grinder was a much needed addition, thank you amazon. Dave Wood
